The focus of the author's strategy is more fundamental analysis than technical analysis. An example is discussing what options are, but not going into incredible detail about them. After having read it, I would describe it as a reference. I read it from cover to cover and it is very informative covering what I believe is all the bases. I am still not an expert, but I feel I know enough to begin a small portfolio and start my retirement now. However, the author cites several web sites and other books that one could read to understand more about any subject that he covered.
Each section is self explanatory and when needing answers, one could skip to that page/section and understand it without having to read previous chapters (although that does help). I knew very little about the stock market before I read this book (only what I learned in High School). Some topics were covered more in depth than others. Both are discussed, but fundamentals are stressed.
If you have no clue at all about stocks/investing, this might well be a good starting place. It is a very easy to read book, well written and informative, but it does start right at the basics and only takes you a little way up the ladder of knowledge.
If you want to invest in stocks a must read for beginners and novice. Lots of helpful resources in there as well. Well written, does not bore. You have no idea how little you know until you read this.
"The grocery store is the stock market. The eggs at 75 cents are overpriced. Other authors criticize the brokerage industry, but this author describes to readers that brokers fall into two categories: full-service and discount brokers. Odds are that you'd look at both brands, judge their quality, and if they're indeed similar, take the cheaper eggs.
Learn how to invest your money, how to pick stocks, and how to make money in the stock market I recommend this book. But he also makes readers aware that in the end, brokers are salespeople and are compensated based on commissions. Investing is where people get excited when the merchandise gets more expensive and depressed when it get cheaper. I like how the author explains the concept of value to readers. Which would you choose. The same is true for stocks."I liked how the author described to readers different brokers and their functions.
- Mariusz Skonieczny, author of Why Are We So Clueless about the Stock Market. This book gives readers a basic overview of the entire world of stock investing. What if two brands of eggs are similar, but one costs 50 cents a carton and the other costs 75 cents. Full-service brokers are more expensive because they provide other services besides just executing trades as discount brokers do.
I told her that she should learn as much as possible before investing.I have formal training in personal finance, and I wound up reading the book myself. I purchased this book for my wife who kept hounding me about getting into the stock market. It has great information to get you started.
